Early Learning and Child Care Diploma

The Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) program at Bow Valley College is designed to provide learners with a combination of practical skills and theoretical knowledge to enable them to provide high quality developmentally appropriate care to young children. The diploma year focuses on linking theory to practice while continuing the development of research and writing skills relevant to early learning and child care providers who are able to supervise a program.
The Early Learning and Child Care Diploma program prepares you to work in child care settings with young children and families as a frontline caregiver or as a supervisor. Completion of the diploma program qualifies you to apply for Child Development Supervisor certification with Alberta Children and Youth Services.
Note 1: This program is also offered part-time, by audio conferencing, and online.
Note 2 : This program has the same course material in 3 credit courses OR in 3 1-credit courses. Note 3: This program is available in a variety of delivery options:

  • Face to face delivery in 3 credit format, Full-time or Part-time
  • Online, home study or workshop delivery of the 1 credit format- NB: Students are strongly urged to enroll in one credit per month, and not in all 3 credits at the same time

The Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) program at Bow Valley College is designed to provide learners with a combination of practical skills and theoretical knowledge to enable them to provide high quality developmentally appropriate care to young children. The certificate year focuses on providing students with a concrete blending of theory and practice to enable students to be prepared to plan developmentally appropriate activities and programs based on the ages, abilities and interests of the children in their care.
Graduates of this certificate program provide quality childcare to young children in various settings and are eligible for Child Development Worker certification from Alberta Child and Youth Services.
Note 1: This program has the same course material in 3-credit courses OR in three 1-credit courses
Note 2: This program is available in a variety of delivery options:

  • Face to face delivery in 3 credit format, Full-time or Part-time
  • Online, home study or workshop delivery of the 1 credit format- NB: Students are strongly urged to enroll in one credit per month, and not in all 3 credits at the same time
